WHO WE ARE!
Hawkins House of Dance is a professional school and dance company. The mission of The Hawkins House is to provide an outlet and safe space for full mind body and soul expression, to use dance to inspire a high vibrational generation rooted in community and to pass on codified modern techniques.
what is horton?
Horton is a modern based dance technique developed by dancer and choreographer Lester Horton, in the 1940's. Lester Horton created the first racially inclusive dance company giving a starting platform to black dance pioneers such as Alvin Ailey, Janet Collins, James Truitte and many others. Horton created the technique to fortify, stretch and strengthen the human body in prepearation for it's use as an instrument for dance.

IS YOUR PROGRAM BEGINNEFRIENDLY?
Absolutely! We prioritize dancers who might feel like they have a late start. All of our classes have intro and advanced levels or offer variations of combos based on skill level. We are beginner and adult friendly!
WHAT PROGRAMS DO YOU OFFEr & when?
- ADULT Technique Intensive: This technique intensive caters to ages 17- 65 and welcomes all skill to this multi level program. Classes include weekly adult beginner friendly technique classes; Sundays 1:30- 3pm. Intensive begins September 15th and runs until December 1st. Drop in single slots available. See Technique Intensive tab to register and for more information.
- Heels University: Heels university is a multi-level safe space for dancers to train and grow together. This program is for beginner to intermediate dancers looking to get started or continue their journey with Heels. It is a cumulative experience that covers the elements of walking, weight shifting, floor work and combination execution. Each semester is 12 weeks and this fall season will take place Mondays 7-8:30pm beginning September 9th. Drop in slots are available but limited
- Teen Program This 10 week after school program begins September 23rd and runs Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-6:30pm. It is for High School students and in partnership with After School Matters. Students will be training in ballet, modern, jazz, Hiphop, majorette and creative development. All teens must apply directly through After School Matters. (See Teen Program Tab)
